Amidst the dry Sierra foothills in the historic goldmining town of Murphys, California – land originally occupied by the Miwok, BASE worked with our clients over the course of seven years to design the outdoor space around a modern pool & spa with a mindful eye towards efficiency, sustainability, and budget. Our choices of materials and planting were informed by the awareness that wildfire has been the bane of the boomtown, and central to the landscape design was the use of native and drought-preferential species that will eventually blend back into the hillside dominated by native oaks and bigleaf maples.
