Fresno High Speed Rail Early Activation
Fresno, CA
01-Station Rendering with Site.png
Project Description

Fresno has been pivotal to the development of California's High Speed Rail project, and the City has chosen a central location for the Fresno Station with the aim to connect and enliven its downtown areas.

The future station will be located on a site where Fresno had its origins: at the Historic Southern Pacific Railway Depot between Tulare and Fresno Streets. BASE has been working with Urban Field Studio and DB on a series of meetings and outreach events. The community has voiced the desire for establishing an inviting green space for events, outdoor activities, and public art; a space that is connected to the Historic Depot, Downtown, and Chinatown once again. This early site activation is both a pilot project and the groundwork for permanent installations, intended to test open space ideas, provide information about the past, present, and future, and establish amenities that benefit the community. Design guidelines featuring the early site activation are to be published in the coming months.
