Our non-profit passion project
While this has been our passion project for many years, With Honey in the Heart received official non-profit status in 2015. The organization focuses on connecting people to their surrounding environment, educating about the benefits of pollinators, creating healthy habitat for all pollinators and elevating the status of bees as the divine beings that they are and their crucial role in pollination and our well being through policy and advocacy.
Some of the projects that we have done include:
Policy and Advocacy: Creating a Bee Safe Campaign that lets people know where to buy plants from growers that are not using any pesticides and/or systemic neonicotinoid pesticides.
Creation of Healthy Habitat: We created a list of pollinator friendly and drought tolerant plants that can be used by municipalities to replace lawns, some of the projects we are currently working on are: Dolores Street Pollinator Boulevard, Park Lab Pollinator Pathway, Algarden Demonstration Urban Farm and Apiary
Education: Speaking at conferences and schools, as well as lecturing at UC Berkeley and UC Berkeley Extension on issues related to pesticides, pollinators and creating healthy habitats in the public environment.
‘Art’ivism: Walking through the almond fields of the central valley of California to bring awareness of the bee decline due to agricultural monocultures
Additionally, we are working creating a bee sanctuary on the big island of Hawaii.
