LEED Platinum Multi-Family Affordable Housing for Veterans
BASE is working with OJK Architects and First Community Housing to build a new affordable housing building for veterans with 135 studio apartments in downtown San Jose. The project is aiming to gain LEED platinum. The concept design was initially started by Design Ecology and we have continued the design development phase and are now moving into construction documents.
The location of the project, next to the 87 freeway, the Union Pacific Railway and along the airport landing flightpath, has made soundproofing and enclosure the main concerns. The project offers outdoor space for the residents at two podium patios, there is also a green-roof in the main building and a rain garden on the side of the building which will manage all the site storm-water.
The planting is a nice combination of drought tolerant, native and pollinator habitat to create a friendly place that is also ecologically conscious and serves many functions.
