Try It Truck

A Mobile Engineering Lab!

BASE worked with the Bay Area Discovery Museum (BADM) to create the Try It Truck, a mobile engineering lab. The truck will roll out to elementary schools for BADM staff to teach kids about digital fabrication tools and techniques.

To allow the Try It Truck to work for any program, we designed a series of pods which can be used to store different tools, materials, and machines. These pods can remain in the truck for use or be rolled down the ramp and into whatever space is available for the program. Heights of the pods vary to provide both kids and adults with comfortable options.

Each pod houses a series of drawers which can be stocked with all the necessary materials and safety components, then swapped in and out of pods depending on the programs BADM will be running. Drawers not needed for a specific program can remain on the truck in its tall bank of drawers.

Pegboard, housed inside the truck, can be easily configured and reconfigured with shelving, hooks, and storage pockets to meet the needs of each program.
