LEED Platinum Multi-Family Affordable Housing
In collaboration with OJK Architects and Design Ecology, BASE managed the construction administration of this new LEED Platinum housing complex in Mountain View. The project was developed by First Community Housing and it is 27 studio units of sustainable, affordable, special needs rental housing at 1585 W. El Camino Real in Mountain View. This project is designed to serve developmentally disabled adults with very low and extremely low-income (30-50% of the area median income), a demographic with great need for affordable housing opportunities.
The landscape architecture design intent was to maximize the areas of impact by providing maximum green spaces, reducing water use, and allowing permeability into the aquifers. The entire site has permeable surfaces, as well as green roofs and bio-filtration zones, which allow all roof runoff to permeate into the ground. Aside from some fruit trees and planting beds for the residents to grow their own food, the landscape is entirely drought tolerant and pollinator friendly.
This in not only a sustainable design, but also a site that offers a healthy space to those who need it most.
